With Loss Comes Discovery.

As many of you may not know (because I never told you) with the beginning of a new semester came the news that some of our good friends had become a statistic. Their comes a time in every persons life when they to must be a statistic, but for some it comes to soon.

The Rylander (Rhylander? Rielander? Rilander?) was a friend, a fellow dingus, and a fool to pass the time with. On January 18th when Chris, Kyle, Bert, the Rymonger (different), and myself returned to campus we learned that the great Rylander had dropped out of collage, and become a statistic. Before he left us we where able to take a exquisite portrait of is doofy mug which will forever be cherished by the great men of “Acquisitions Incorporated LLC.” (That’s what we call ourselves by the way).

IMG_8695To honor the great Rylander i call to the world to find the doofyest picture of someone else you know and share it with the world! This is the internet, they have no way of knowing who did it (I believe that is how it works), and worst case scenario you can always delete it because nothing on the internet is permanent (again, speculations here).

The Kyle attempting to seduce himself as to be less lonely during these cold winter nights.

The elusive wiled Rymonger, being 1/2 vampire (much like myself) does not appear on conventional digital photography an further research is needed in to capturing his essence on a computronic box machine.

Moving Up In The World! (not literally)

Today I have some  “SUPER AWESOME” pieces of news for all of my trusty viewers. First off, I am moving up in the world; I invested a great deal of time and money in upgrading this lame o’ll site. Before ya’ll had to type in that obnoxious and long “HTTP://WWW.NoahHeymman.wordpress.com”, but now because i care about you i have SHORTENED IT to a measly “NoahHeyman.com”. (Very exciting)

Additionally, I am attempting to increase traffic to and from my site, (more to and less from). This realization means something for both me (the computer), and you (the HUMAN). For me (computer) I now need to make more posts to keep ya’ll entertained, and youze (PEOPLE) need to share some links, recommend me to your friends, and plaster my face all over social media!!!

Hopefully if this relationship works out for the both of us (or all of us) we can try to take it to the next step, like dinner, or some Jiffy POP. Until then share my (new) link, have a laugh, and know somewhere out there I am drinking Cool-Aid and thinking of you.

Let it SNOW!

Today Alfred got its first snow day of the year! Last night we got over a foot of snow dumped on us and woke up to an email letting us all know that their would be no school (but the dining halls are open). Here are a few pictures from this morning of the snow!

As a side note, Congratulations to AVI for yet again blowing a meal out of the water. As none of you are aware, AVI likes to make everything from scratch, even their potato chips. Here is today’s catch of the day!IMG_1065

DO IT! MOVE THINGS!

For my second activity I chose to move things.IMG_1011

Unfortunately, due to a large series of unfortunate circumstances i was very limited as to when and where I could move things around. I chose to stick with Scholes Library as well for this activity. Moving things was a particularly exciting activity for me because this is something I try to do on a daily basis in order to keep the world around me on its toes. I plan to continue rearrange things in the future, but for now, I give you… THE LIBRARY! IMG_0980 IMG_0981 IMG_0982 IMG_0983 IMG_0984 IMG_0985 IMG_0986 IMG_0987 IMG_0988 IMG_0989 IMG_0990 IMG_0991

Measurements of value

Today in CoLab we where each given an envelope containing five activities. We where to chose two of the activities and do one independently and one in a group of two-ish.

The first activity I chose to do was “Measurements of value” (see description below)

IMG_1012

For this assignment I decided to work with Madi. I made this decision by standing up and asking the class, “who wants to do the price tag thing” and she said yes, so we exchanged numbers and met up later on. We chose to work in Scholes Library and here is what we came up with. We ended up making the room feel almost like an estate sale or similar, and left the price tags up for others to shop.

Homework: The Communication “Number 136”

It’s here!

For our final assignment in the “STUDIO: the line” class we where instructed to take all of our research from the line, as well as all of the knowledge obtained from previous pieces and create a single culminating installation that embodies The LINE, what we know about it, how we feel about it, and how we think about it.

First pictures, then explanation!

IMG_0749IMG_0752 IMG_0751 IMG_0750

For my installation, I decided to stick with my TINY glass vials (3 dram ea.) and collect MORE TINY objects from the line. i ended up with 174 vials, all of which where corked, sealed, and numbered (1 through 175). I Then created a form for each vial that contained the vial number, and the contents of it, with the instructions to draw and then describe the contents. Additionally I laid a linoleum floor to add to the feeling of a laboratory. Once all of the forms are completed I plan to punch holes in them and create a catalog of other peoples perspective on my perspective on the line. Additionally I plan to cover the vials with a sheet of Plexiglas and add hooks so it can be hung on a wall later in its life.

Curious about whats in those vials? well, due to high resolution, CLICK THE PICTURES TO ZOOM, and read bellow for the complete list!

Title explanation: If you have have read this far you have won the title explanation! When stamping the vials with their numbers my helpers and I (chris and bert) missed a number and only realized once we got to the end and hit 175 instead of 174. After going back and checking them all i found that i was missing #136, and a title was born!

Homework: The Proposal

For “The Proposal” we where all instructed to think of three ideas for final projects. We then sat down individually with our instructors to discuss how we planed on completing the assignments and where we were going to go next. See “Homework: The Proposal”

For my proposal I decided i wanted to stick with my vials of trash and tings from the line and expand on it. So, first i decided i should make a whole bunch more, 114 more to be exact (total of 174). Then I decided to make a box of some sort to put them in. Next i thought to myself; What the heck is being done with these vials of trash and things? Well my friend, they are being studied!

Stay tuned for more info! (enjoy some progress pictures BELOWWWWW!

Homework: THE WORD

For this assignment we where instructed to take our word (tiny) and go out onto the line and create three different collections based on it. Then we where to create a three dimensional installation in the Cohen studio of one of our three collections. More information on the assignment can be found HERE!

For my first collection I decided to use photography as my means of collecting. For this collection I focused on the tiny’s of the natural world. These photos where all taken with the same zoom and focal point (55mm plus 13mm extension). See examples bellow! Additional images can be found here!

THESE IMAGES WHERE TAKEN WITH “ALL OF THE PIXELS” CLICK ON THEM TO OPEN THEM UP IN A NEW TAB, THEN CLICK AGAIN TO ZOOM!! There is a lot to see in these images and it is really worth taking the time to blow them up!

Next I decided to make a collection of the Tiny’s of the man made world. Again, I decided to use photography as my means of collecting and took them with the same zoom and focal point (55mm plus 13mm extension).

See examples bellow! Additional images can be found here!

Lastly, for my installation, I decided to select a small glass vial, and collect anything that i could fit inside it. This turned into a slightly interesting task because it was teetering between pouring snowing and hailing while I was trying to collect my objects. I did manage, however, to collect a wide assortment of both natural and man made objects from the line. I had decided that i was going to limit myself to 60 vials (the number of corks I had). After bottling and corking each object, I sealed them with wax and stamped each seal with a number, one through sixty. I then created a list of the contents of each vial and set up my installation!
